Fuqwong “ Tacticaltricker3” Hom: From Shaolin to the World of Tricking

The Culture Inc e~Mag Vol 2 Issue 2

Born and raised in “Shaolin,” Staten Island, New York, Fuqwong Hom, also known as “Rocky” and better know throughout the movement community as Tacticaltricker3, is carving out a unique path where athletics, martial-arts-inspired movement, discipline, and the arts come together. Over the past couple of years, Fuqwong has immersed himself in the world of tricking and tactical movement, traveling throughout New York and beyond to train, learn, practice, and develop the techniques behind the sport. What began as a personal journey into learning the tricks and trade of movement has quickly developed into a serious athletic pursuit and an opportunity to eventually share those skills with others.

A major turning point came in April 2026, when Fuqwong attended a workshop at Vertigo, an international tricking gathering in East Brunswick, New Jersey. That experience helped ignite a deeper commitment to the sport and introduced him to a broader community of athletes who share his passion for movement. Tricking combines elements influenced by martial arts, gymnastics, acrobatics, kicks, flips, twists, and creative movement, allowing athletes to develop their own individual styles. Vertigo describes its mission as creating experiences that push the sport forward while connecting the tricking community.

By the summer of 2026, Fuqwong had taken the next major step by entering the competitive side of tricking. His first competition experience came at Battle of Fury, where he entered an environment surrounded by athletes, coaches, and fellow practitioners from different backgrounds. Battle of Fury describes its gatherings as opportunities for the community to come together to learn, share, trick, and grow, with battles, workshops, open sessions, and other activities designed for athletes at different levels. This competitive experience gave Fuqwong another opportunity to test the discipline and skills he had been developing through his training.

One of the most meaningful aspects of Fuqwong's journey has been the people he has encountered along the way. Through training and competition, he has had the opportunity to learn alongside and build relationships with fellow trickers and mentors including Luke Feeser, Dylan Berry, Will Coney, Luke Cabel, Ryan Clay, Coled Garrow, Isaiah Rodriguez, Mike Hom, and others within the community. Several of those names are represented within the broader competitive and coaching ecosystem of tricking; for example, US Tricking's competition records include athletes such as Luke Feeser, Dylan Berry, Ryan Clay, and William-Thomas Coneys, while Trick Dynamix identifies Ryan Clay and Coledyn Garrow among its coaches. For Fuqwong, these connections represent more than names—they are part of a developing network of knowledge, mentorship, friendship, and shared athletic passion.

Now, Fuqwong is preparing to take his experience to another level with Vertigo 2026, taking place September 17–20, 2026, at the All Star Athletic Center in East Brunswick, New Jersey. Vertigo brings trickers from around the world together to celebrate movement, community, and culture, with open sessions, seminars, a night show, and the Vertigo Film Festival among the scheduled experiences. For an athlete who only began seriously exploring the sport in 2026, participating in the full Vertigo experience represents another milestone in a rapidly developing journey.

Beyond competition, Fuqwong is beginning to look toward the teaching and educational side of tricking. His goal is not simply to learn increasingly difficult movements, but to understand the discipline, preparation, technique, creativity, and community values behind the sport well enough to eventually help others discover its benefits. His story demonstrates how athletic development can become a pathway into mentorship, creativity, confidence, and community engagement. From the streets and neighborhoods of Staten Island's “Shaolin” to training sessions throughout New York and experiences beyond the state, Tacticaltricker3 is turning movement into a lifestyle—and building toward a future where he can help others learn to move with purpose.
